Application Deadline: 23rd October 2026
Rolan Foundation is looking for a Grant Writer to join its Grants and Partnerships Unit. The role is full-time and based on-site at the National Office in Ondo.
Location: Ondo (on-site at the National Office)
Employment type: Full-time
About Rolan Foundation
Rolan Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation set up to make a realistic and lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable and less-privileged people in urban, rural and hard-to-reach communities across Nigeria. Its work rests on three main approaches: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Capacity Development, and Welfare.
What the Grant Writer will actually do
The successful candidate will sit in the Grants and Partnerships Unit and take charge of turning the Foundation’s programme ideas into clear, fundable proposals. Day-to-day work centres on five areas:
- Developing and writing grant concepts and full proposals
- Researching funding sources and mapping new opportunities
- Working closely with internal teams so that proposals reflect real programme needs
- Supporting donor compliance and reporting after grants are won
- Contributing strategic thinking to the unit’s overall funding approach
In practice this means long stretches of research and drafting, followed by internal meetings to gather accurate programme details, then careful editing so every proposal meets the specific requirements of different donors.
Who this role is likely to suit
The listing seeks a highly skilled and experienced Grant Writer who is also a strategic thinker. The ideal person already has a proven record of winning grants for nonprofits or social enterprises and can turn programme ideas into competitive funding proposals.
Someone who has written multiple successful proposals for Nigerian or international donors, understands the language donors expect, and can work under deadlines will feel at home. People who prefer purely operational or field roles, or who have never written a full grant proposal from start to finish, may find the constant research, drafting and internal coordination demanding.
Practical tips for your Resume and interview
These points are AlertNaija247 guidance only; the employer did not list formal qualifications.
- Open your Resume with a short profile that names the total value or number of grants you have helped secure and the types of organisations you wrote for (local NGOs, social enterprises, etc.).
- Under experience, list specific proposals you developed, the donor, the amount requested or awarded, and your exact contribution (concept note, full proposal, budget narrative, logframe).
- Mention any tools or databases you use for funding research (for example, online grant portals or donor directories) so the reader sees you already know how to find opportunities.
- If you have supported post-award reporting or donor compliance, add one or two concrete examples; this matches one of the listed responsibilities.
- For the interview, prepare two short stories: one about a proposal that succeeded and one about a proposal that needed major revision after internal feedback. Be ready to explain how you handled both.
One honest question to ask yourself before applying: Can I point to at least two or three completed grant proposals (successful or not) that I wrote or led, and can I explain the research, drafting and internal coordination steps I took for each?
